A tribute to the victims of a country which still wakes up stunned, Sunday April 14. Bouquets of flowers were left a few meters from the attack which claimed the lives of six people the day before in Sydney (Australia). “It shocked me deeply”, confides a resident. Around 4 p.m., Saturday April 13, a man armed with a knife attacked people who were in his path in a shopping center. After a few minutes, the attacker was shot dead by the police.

A 40-year-old man who allegedly acted alone

According to authorities, it is Joel Cauchi, 40, whose photo was widely distributed by local media. The profile of an unbalanced man who acted alone emerges. His action would not have been “motivated by a particular ideology”according to Roger Lowe, deputy commissioner of the Queensland State Police Service. “We know that the perpetrator in this case suffered and continues to suffer from mental health issues”, he clarified. The man was known to the police but had never been arrested. Originally from the neighboring state of Queensland, he had just arrived in the region.
