CAPontarlier Rugby: a club, a history, an anchor

The Pontarlier rugby club was created in the course of 1927 under the entity Rugby Club Pontissalien.
This adventure began in difficult conditions on different terrains in the city, before Paul robbe, then mayor of Pontarlier (1929-1935), decides in 1933 to build a dedicated infrastructure – initially in football, then in rugby – which today remains the official stadium of CA Pontarlier Rugby, flanked by two stands which close an enclosure that can accommodate around 1,500 to 2,000 people.
It was in 1944, while the structure was developing, that the club changed its name to become CAP Rugby: the Pontarlier Rugby Athletic Club.
With its history, the club has always been one of the main sports structures in the city.

CAPontarlier Rugby: today

Since 2018, David ligier presides over the destinies of the club, supported by Olivier Andreani – sports manager – and a steering committee made up of about fifteen volunteers or leaders.
Five full-time or training employees complete the management staff
CAPontarlier Rugby now has 317 licensees, to which is added an independent female structure – Les Redoubstables – made up of 39 licensees constituting the Under 18 and Senior categories.
Rugby school, for its part, managed by Mickaël Schoepf, brings together around 120 licensees, from the Baby Rugby to Under 14 category. Follow the ʺyoungʺ categories comprising 31 U16 players and 28 U19 players.
A certified training center open to “young” categories has just been created, making it possible to strengthen the training of local or regional players who so wish. Baptiste Clément, employee of the club, assumes the direction, helped in his mission by Elie Malfroy.
Seniors – trained for 3 seasons by Christian Cabanes – represent, all teams combined, 95 licenses.
The entire structure is supervised by around sixty managers and volunteers.
In addition, a new section called Leisure Rugby has just seen the light of day, offering everyone the possibility of playing a 5-a-side rugby, without tackling, and open to everyone.
Finally, a section of former players completes these numbers under the entity ʺXV de l’Absintheʺ.

The senior team is currently playing in the French Federal 2 championship, after having known the Fédérale 1 in 1999 (at the time the 3rd division of French rugby), the highest level reached in Pontarlier.
