As of the next school year in Quebec, the deadline for dropping out of college will be set at 60% of the duration of the session, with the government wanting to put in place all the necessary conditions to promote perseverance and success in the course. student population.
The withdrawal deadline is currently set at a fixed date within 20% of the duration of the session.
The postponement of the withdrawal deadline will apply in 2024-2025 in both CEGEPs and private colleges.
The Minister of Higher Education, Pascale Déry, affirms that this change was requested and expected by several players in the college network.
In his opinion, the current fixed withdrawal date can constitute an obstacle to success and be a source of stress, in particular because students do not have enough time to analyze their situation and make the right decisions.
Minister Déry adds that the modification announced Wednesday will promote greater coherence between the college and university networks. In addition, she said, the modification will allow a student to maintain their status as a person deemed to be studying full-time, thus preventing their CEGEP from requiring tuition fees.
