Clémence Botino fails at the gates of the Top 12

After a year of absence, the Miss World election made its comeback this Saturday, March 9, 2024, from the stage of the Jio World Convention Center, in Mumbai (India). The Polish Karolina Bielawska had to give up her crown, after her coronation at Miss World 2021. For the first time since 2018, it was a Miss France who represented us, in the person of Clémence Botino. Indeed, the young woman, who was crowned Miss France 2020, agreed to take up the challenge by succeeding April Benayoum and Ophély Mézino, who had not been unworthy. The first was ranked in the top 13, and the second managed to be first runner-up, like Marine Ltemporel in 2013. But then, for what result?

Broadcast this Saturday from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Paris Première, the ceremony did not allow Clémence Botino to shine. The young woman narrowly escaped the top 12, and only made it to the top 40. The three Europeans who were preferred for the top 12 are Miss Czech Republic Krystyna Pyszkova, Miss England Jessica Gagen and Miss Spain Paula Perez. The top 4 were subsequently made up of Miss Trinidad and Tobago Ache AbrahamsMiss Botswana Lesego ChomboMiss Czech Republic Krystyna Pyszková and Miss Lebanon Yasmina Zaytoun finally made the top 4.

Chloé Mortaud and Marine Ltemporel had shone, Delphine Wespiser and Flora Coquerel much less

By being eliminated in the round of the 40 remaining, Clémence Botino achieves France’s worst score since Flora Coquerel in 2014, which failed to place. In 2012 and 2011, Delphine Wespiser and Clémence Oleksy also failed, without being classified. In 2009, Chloé Mortaud did much better, placing third runner-up. Of the other Miss France who represented us, Rachel Legrain-Trapani and Cindy Fabre did not place either, while in 1999, Véronique Caloc rose to first runner-up. In 1987, Nathalie Marquay-Pernaut managed to place sixth runner-up, but we have to go back to 1953 to find the only French woman who managed to win the competition: it was Denise Perrierwho is still aiming and is 88 years old. For 71 years, no other French woman has managed to wear this title.
