Granby: the man found dead last week was the victim of a murder

The 68 year old man found lifeless a week ago in an apartment building in Granbyin Estrie, was allegedly the victim of a murder, police authorities announced Wednesday.

The victim, whose identity has not yet been revealed, was found unresponsive in an apartment on rue du Center. The police then treated the case as a suspicious death, not knowing whether it was a murder, an accident or a deliberate act.

A 66-year-old woman was quickly arrested following the discovery of the body, but she was released after being met by investigators.

Analysis of the scene, various investigative steps and the results of the autopsy, however, made it possible to establish that the sixty-year-old had indeed been the victim of a murder.

The Sûreté du Québec police officers, who inherited the case, handcuffed the same 66-year-old woman who had initially been arrested on Wednesday morning.

Police did not want to reveal the link between the victim and the suspect.

The woman is expected to appear Wednesday afternoon at the Granby courthouse on a charge of unpremeditated murder.

The suspect was convicted in 2009 in a case of assault causing harm. She received one year’s probation and 50 hours of community service.
