Kick-off, Friday March 1, of the big Restos du Cœur collection in supermarkets. The number of beneficiaries is exploding this year.
The Restos du Cœur volunteers hope to fill as many shopping carts as possible. They are on deck from Friday March 1st and for the entire weekend for the annual collection in supermarkets. In a Lille supermarket like everywhere in France, the operation has already started. Donations are essential to keep the association running. “In three days, we will normally collect 12% of the donations we receive during the year“, explains Hortense Lambert, vice-president of Restos du Cœur AD 59 Nord-Lille.
Fewer donations with inflation?
This year, with inflation, the association fears that its stocks will be insufficient in the face of increased demand. She hopes to collect 9,000 tonnes of donations, as much as in 2023. But will the donors be there? The result of the collection will be known on the evening of Sunday March 3. The objective: to continue to distribute more than 170 million meals each year.
