Budget airline Lynx Air said it would cease operations on Monday after filing for protection from creditors.
The Calgary-based airline says it has obtained an initial order from the Alberta Court of King’s Bench under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act.
In a statement announcing the cessation of operations, the company cites “significant headwinds” over the past year, including rising costs, high fuel prices, foreign exchange rates, increased airport fees. and a difficult economic and regulatory environment.
Lynx advises passengers with existing reservations to contact their credit card company for reimbursement for pre-booked travel.
Lynx Air’s inaugural flight took off less than two years ago, in April 2022.
