From the passage of the Jeannois group Marie Céleste to the Francouvertes in 2023, we remember the community spirit and abundant of its pop-folk-rock songs and its structure, the group based on two main singers, Simon Duchesne and Philippe Plourde. We will have deduced that vocal harmonies are one of the main characteristics of the group’s approach, which had the good idea of inviting another lover of beautiful voices, Étienne Coppée, to co-produce (with Amaury Pluvinage) this first minialbum. It’s (almost) successful: after a soft and warm intro, Marie Céleste explodes on the title song, an emphatic rock evoking the dazzling beginnings of Arcade Fire, to follow up the atmospheric ballad Kerosenebeautifully arranged with atmospheric notes, and the colorful World House. The finale, however, disappoints: the prog-rock impulse Philadelphia stands out, while the text of On the hand uses clichés to describe the gloomy side of the city center. Launches on February 23 at the Sala Rossa, in Montreal, and March 7 at the Pantoum, in Quebec.
