The Minister of Health spoke to the Assembly’s Law Commission on Wednesday
“Considering the numbers that we have been recording for a few days, I will speak of a tidal wave.” Olivier Véran raised the tone on Wednesday, December 29, after the explosion of contaminations in France. For the first time, the threshold of 200,000 cases in 24 hours has been crossed, according to figures released by the Minister of Health. “We are facing two enemies”, Delta which has not said its last word, underlined the minister, as well as “the Omicron variant, and here I won’t talk about waves any more. I talked about tidal waves.”
“250,000 cases per day by early January”
Some 208,000 cases have been recorded in the last 24 hours in France, “figures that make you dizzy”, assaulted the minister during a hearing in the National Assembly. On Tuesday evening, Public Health France had already announced nearly 180,000 cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours, which was already a record. Faced with the outbreak of contaminations, “10% of the French population is in contact” and the unvaccinated have “little chance of passing between the drops, the virus circulates too much”, said the minister, his voice deep.
>> Vaccine pass: here is what the government bill contains, examined in the Assembly from today
Monday evening, he had predicted that “we could reach over 250,000 cases per day by the beginning of January”. Initially planned for application at the end of January, the bill providing for wanting to transform the health pass into a vaccination pass is examined by the Law Commission at the Palais Bourbon on Wednesday. The text will then be discussed in the Assembly’s hemicycle from Monday and in the Senate from Wednesday January 5 for entry into force scheduled for January 15.
