Debureaucratization and the elimination of committees, a real economy?
Debureaucratization and the elimination of committees, a real economy? – (France 2)
Gabriel Attal insisted on his desire to debureaucratize on Tuesday January 30. One measure, the elimination of committees which have not met for 12 months, symbolizes his approach. Are there so many?
In his general policy declaration, Gabriel Attal wants to debureaucratize France in order to save money. “All committees or others which have not met in the last 12 months will be abolished”, did he declare. France Télévisions analyzed the list of more than 300 bodies attached to different ministries. The most recent data concerns the year 2022. 35 committees did not meet that year.
Only two committees generated expenses
Would removing them really lead to significant savings? The vast majority of committees that did not meet in 2022 did not incur any operating costs. According to the finance bill, only two of them generated expenditure. For example, the National Observatory of Urban Policy indicates 52,000 euros in costs. According to the Observatory, this amount is due to costs of publication, design and distribution of reports, and maintenance of websites.
Some committees have therefore not met once in 2022, it is true. However, the absence of meetings does not necessarily mean that no work has been carried out.
