Minister Bernard Drainville urges the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, to limit immigration, failing which Ottawa will cause the “rupture” of the Quebec education network.
“Please Mr. Trudeau, we have reached the limit there. We are indeed at the breaking point. So, the open bar in immigration, stop it there, because the rest of us, in education, we lack teachers, then we lack premises,” he declared on the sidelines of the pre-sessional caucus of CAQ elected officials in Sherbrooke on Wednesday.
The Montreal school service center (CSSDM) must find “teachers and premises” to accommodate some 400 additional students from immigrant backgrounds. “We are working very hard on solutions. Mr. Trudeau should help us a little,” reiterated the Minister of Education.
The CSSDM has opened the equivalent of no less than three primary schools since last September in order to educate asylum seekers in particular, indicated Mr. Drainville, while recalling that 1,237 francization classes are currently scattered across Quebec.
