A bright, glass facade: it’s difficult to recognize a former car dealership from the 1930s transformed into offices. Make way for a company specializing in the energy transition in real estate. Each floor of the building has been redesigned and optimized. In the center of the building, the centerpiece of the garage has been transformed. Renovating a building is half as polluting as building a new one, but also 20% more expensive. As square meters are precious, projects multiply. In Paris, around thirty old garages are being transformed. One of the biggest constraints: bringing light to each home. And to adapt to the particular structure of the place, you have to deal with the half-levels.
1 in 3 families own a car in Paris
Thirty years ago, in the capital, one in two families had a car. Today, it is no longer that 1 out of 3. To facilitate transformations, a Bordeaux architectural firm had an idea: create reversible, fully modular parking lots, already adapted to housing standards.
