The body of a woman, bearing marks of violence, was discovered Friday evening in Granby, in Estrie.
Police officers from the City of Granby Police Department were called to go to an apartment on Elgin Street around 8:00 p.m., where they discovered the 29-year-old woman unresponsive. His death was noted on site and the investigation was entrusted to the crimes against the person section of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
“In the evening, a 32-year-old man was arrested in connection with this case by police officers in the Laurier-Station sector,” said Louis-Philippe Ruel, spokesperson for the SQ.
The man who was arrested around 10:30 p.m. in the Chaudière-Appalaches region could appear as early as Saturday afternoon at the Granby courthouse.
It was immediately impossible to indicate whether there is a link between the victim and the suspect, or whether a weapon was used, so as not to harm the ongoing investigation, explained Sergeant Ruel.
“The man was still being met by investigators” on Saturday morning, said the SQ spokesperson.
The identity of the victim has not yet been made public.
