Renaissance spokesperson Loïc Signor hijacked Marine Le Pen’s wishes to the French with artificial intelligence. The attack shows the party leader speaking in Russian and aimed to denounce the proximity between the National Rally and Moscow.
It’s a controversy most of which would have been fine. Loïc Signor, spokesperson for the Renaissance party, published a video on X, formerly Twitter, with the following message: “AI is even scarier when it gets closer to reality. Find #MarinePoutine’s 2024 wishes.” We see Marine Le Pen sending her wishes for the new year in Russian thanks to artificial intelligence. The video is an undisguised way of criticizing the proximity between the Kremlin and the National Rally (RN). It was published a few days after the publication of an article in the Washington Post which revealed links between Moscow and the RN.
A common practice in the United States
The party was quick to react. “It’s ultimately politics at the gutter level”, said Laurent Jacobelli, spokesperson for the National Rally. It is the use of artificial intelligence for political purposes that raises the question here: the practice is becoming common in other countries. “We have politicians in the United States who have no problem with the idea of using synthetic content for their political propaganda”, explains Tristan Mendès-France, lecturer. Contacted, Loïc Signor did not wish to respond to Franceinfo’s requests.
