48 dead and 118 injured. Serial shootings day and night, often in the middle of the street: drug trafficking has never claimed so many victims in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) in one year. From North to South, almost no sector was spared. Laëtitia Linon is part of a collective of victims. “Two years ago, what we heard in our collective was, as long as it happens in the northern neighborhoods, that it’s between them. Now the situation has changed. (…) They come to shoot at a neighborhood. (…) They no longer look, they shoot“, she confides.
A vendetta sparked between two enemy trafficking clans
At the end of October, several hundred Marseillais took to the streets. A milestone has once again been reached in violence. Soucayna, a student, was killed in her room by a stray bullet that pierced the wall. In 2023, four people who had no connection to any trafficking were shot dead. At the origin of the deadly bursts, a vendetta sparked between two enemy trafficking clans. Three-quarters of the shootings since January are directly linked to this conflict.
