Now a recovery location mission, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) search continues with reduced staff on Thursday, seven days after a 4-year-old girl fell into the Mistassibi River, in Saguenay–Lac-Saint- Jeans.
Two police officers are on the ground at strategic observation points that an SQ technician has determined, indicated Sergeant Hugues Beaulieu, spokesperson for the SQ. Patrols by watercraft and by air with a helicopter or drone are over.
On December 22, the little girl was sliding with her mother in Dolbeau-Mistassini, when the tragedy occurred in the afternoon, near a hiking trail located near Route 169.
After slipping, the child was unable to stop her running and she crossed the fence of a guardrail installed along the bank, then found herself in the waters of the river.
With the family’s agreement, the provincial police released a photo of the girl’s clothing at the time of her disappearance, calling on residents and citizens driving near the river to contact the police if they saw any clothing similar to those in the photo.
The little girl was wearing a multi-colored winter coat, as well as blue snow pants.
