Intolerable conditions | The duty

Teachers do not demonstrate in the streets for the fun of it. They seek to obtain decent working conditions, commensurate with their skills and the importance of their roles for the future of our society. They of course want to be recognized by decent remuneration, but above all to be able to help their students. The current conditions can be described as intolerable, both for teachers and students. If school were really a priority for this government, we would not be here. Now we learn that the Alliance of Montreal Professors will make a food assistance program available for its members, including my eldest daughter, thanks to the generosity of individual donors and other union organizations. The government is dragging out negotiations in order to literally starve teachers. How can a so-called advanced society like ours get to this point? Today, I am ashamed of being Quebecois!
