Friday, December 15, three Israeli hostages were killed by the IDF during an operation in Gaza. A tragedy which has angered the Israeli population who are demanding answers.
Their names were Yotam Haim, Samer El-Talalqa and Alon Shamriz. These men, all under the age of 30, had been kidnapped by Hamas and held hostage in northern Gaza. On Friday, December 15, they were killed by mistake by IDF soldiers during an operation. An incomprehensible error and an anger that does not subside. In Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, the streets are filled with dismayed Israelis. “The only way to free the hostages alive is through negotiation. Fighting is a good thing, but we can take a break”says one of the demonstrators.
“Turn on the light”
If the Israeli army expresses its deep regrets to the families, how could such a tragedy happen? “The three people killed are believed to have either have been abandoned by Hamas terrorists or escaped. We absolutely must shed light”, declared Olivier Rafowicz, spokesperson for the Israeli army. An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances which led to this failure. To date, 129 people are still believed to be held hostage by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
