Congestion and obstructions | Areas to avoid in Greater Montreal this weekend

Congestion is likely to occur in several sectors of Greater Montreal this weekend, starting with the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge which will be closed throughout the weekend. Highways 15, 40 and 25 will also be blocked.

This was indicated Thursday afternoon by the Mobilité Montréal committee, responsible for planning major projects in the metropolitan region.

Already earlier this week, Quebec had warned that the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge would once again have to be completely closed to traffic throughout next weekend. The government will carry out maintenance work on the damaged portion of the structure’s slab, which only has two lanes available due to extensive damage.

The complete closure will take place in both directions from Friday 11 p.m. to Monday 5 a.m. On Highway 40, between the municipalities of Senneville and Vaudreuil-Dorion, this means that it will be impossible to travel between Boulevard des Anciens-Combattants and Avenue Saint-Charles.

Heading west, access to Chemin de Senneville will nevertheless be maintained for users who must continue to travel in the area. The ramp leading from Highway 40 to the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge will, however, have to be closed on the Vaudreuil-Dorion side.

Saturday and Sunday, during the day, the closure of one lane in four of Highway 15 South will be expected between Atwater Avenue and Gaétan Laberge Boulevard. At night, two out of four lanes will have to be interrupted. Replacement work to raise noise barriers on the Samuel-De Champlain Bridge corridor, reported by The Press previously, are still continuing there.

Between Pointe-Claire and Kirkland, Highway 40 West will be closed between exit 52 of Saint-Jean Boulevard and the entrance to Sainte-Marie Road for two consecutive nights, from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday. Detours will be in place via the service road and Chemin Sainte-Marie.

Notice to users of the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel: the latter will be partially closed overnight from Sunday to Monday. In the north direction, the closure will take place between exit 90 and the entrance from rue Notre-Dame Est, while in the south direction, it will be exit 4 towards avenue Souligny which will have to be blocked. You will then have to take a detour via exit 3, towards rue Notre-Dame.

On the public transport side, the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) will be exceptionally open from 7:30 a.m. this Saturday, December 16, in order to update the systems. Shuttles will therefore provide the journey between Brossard and downtown Montreal from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. This is in addition to the closure of the light train from 10 p.m., in effect from Sunday to Thursday, for work related to the noise.
