CF Montreal, which did not confirm the news, would in return pay Nashville SC a hefty allowance of $ 1million spread over 2022 and 2023. If Johnston eventually moved overseas, Nashville would receive a percentage of the sale.

According to independent journalist Tom Bogert, CF Montreal has already agreed on the terms of a long-term contract with Johnston.

Johnston was on 11e 2020 Draft overall pick. He has spent the last two seasons with Nashville. The 23-year-old also plays for the Canadian national team, with which he made 18 appearances.

The right-back will not find himself in unknown territory in Quebec. A native of Vancouver, he moved to Montreal with his parents when he was four years old. He was playing with the Lakeshore Soccer Club in Kirkland. He was seven years old when his family moved from Montreal to Aurora, Ontario.
