In Chaumont (Haute-Marne), as in all cities in France, the question of purchasing power is pose but also that of transport. What are the residents’ expectations? What are their solutions as well?

Chaumont, the prefecture of Haute-Marne, is a town located in the heart of eastern France. It has 21,990 inhabitants who earn an average of 2,075 euros per month. Every Saturday morning, the town market is held in magnificent halls. Here, purchasing power is at the center of concerns. Chaumont has nearly 280 shops and to resist the health crisis, the town hall has financed vouchers to support them.

From now on, it is inflation which worries certain traders of Chaumont, starting with Sylvain Mussy, the chocolate maker of the city. “One of the measures that should perhaps be taken is quite simply to facilitate and help industries to stay in France once again”, he says. The city of Chaumont is located 2h30 from Paris by TER and in terms of transport, there is room for improvement. “Trains are often canceled and there are a lot of delays”, confides a resident.
