Montreal | A man seriously injured by a fire in the Village

A man was seriously injured in a major fire in the Village in Montreal on Wednesday evening.

The Montreal Fire Safety Service (SIM) was alerted around 6:35 p.m. regarding smoke coming from a commercial building located on Sainte-Catherine Street East, between Wolfe and Montcalm streets, in the heart of the Village, at Montreal.

The affected business was open when the fire broke out, said Robert Rousseau, section head for the SIM.

On site, a man was seriously injured and had to be transported to hospital urgently, said Nicolas La Salle Abran, intervention supervisor and spokesperson for Urgences Santé. “We would fear for our lives,” he says.

Around 7:30 p.m., around 90 firefighters were still battling the flames after three alarms were triggered one after the other.

On the Urgences-Santé side, two ambulances, a supervisor, an operational support unit and a tactical medical intervention vehicle were deployed.
