Anti-Semitic acts: the worrying contagion
Anti-Semitic acts: the worrying contagion – (France info)
Stars of David tagged on buildings in several cities in France, a practice reminiscent of what the Germans did during the Second World War. This is a sign of the rise in anti-Semitism since October 7.
Stars of David, symbols of Judaism, were placed by anonymous hands on walls in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. In total, around sixty of these disturbing graffiti were stenciled on the night of Monday October 30 to Tuesday October 31 as if they wanted to designate the real or supposed presence of Jewish residents. Residents are outraged. “It hurts me, we’ve never seen that here”deplores a resident.
Gérald Darmanin meets the Jewish community
Other municipalities are also affected: stars have been seen in Seine-Saint-Denis in Saint-Denis, Saint-Ouen and Aubervilliers, in Vanves (Hauts-de-Seine) and even in Lyon (Rhône). The Jewish community is worried. “People are experiencing it in a difficult way, they are asking themselves the question: ‘Are we going to be able to continue to bring the children to school? Are we going to be able to go and eat in a kosher restaurant? ?'”, confided Gil Taieb, vice-president of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France. Faced with this outbreak of incidents, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin met, Tuesday, October 31, with representatives of the Jewish community. According to the ministry, since October 7, 857 anti-Semitic acts have resulted in 425 arrests.
