Shifa Hospital, the largest in the Gaza Strip, receives wounded people every day. Surgeons face a lack of equipment, personnel and medications.
In the Gaza Strip, after each Israeli bombardment, the wounded are taken to the hospital by all available means. A building has just been destroyed, leaving dozens injured, including several children. Among the wounded, Palestinian journalists are present in Shifa hospital, the largest and best equipped in the Gaza Strip. In this chaos, a surgeon spends his days in the operating room. Between the lack of equipment, medicines and personnel, he recognizes that the hospital is on the verge of collapse.
200 patients could not be operated on
“We have more than 200 patients who need to be operated on and who were unable to do so because, when they arrived, there were already patients who were injured,” says Professor Ghassan Abu Sitta, surgeon at Shifa hospital. Thousands of people settled around the hospital. Summarily installed, the displaced Palestinians hoped to find security.
