Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly arrived in Tel Aviv on Friday morning to begin a whirlwind tour until Sunday. The minister will also visit Greece and Jordan.
Throughout her stay in the region, she will meet with her regional partners, notably the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel, Eli Cohen, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan, Ayman Safadi.
During her visit, the minister plans to reaffirm Canada’s support for Israel and its right to defend itself in accordance with international law.
She will discuss the repercussions of the Hamas terrorist attack against Israel and the rapid deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Gaza, reiterating the importance for all parties to respect international humanitarian law, including the rapid and unimpeded passage of the humanitarian aid, as well as the protection of Israeli and Palestinian civilians.
