(Laval) A 65-year-old teacher suffered upper body injuries after being attacked in the middle of class by a 13-year-old student on Thursday afternoon in a Laval school.
The event occurred shortly after dinner at the Odyssée-des-Jeunes school, according to information from the spokesperson for the Police Department of the City of Laval (SPL) Érika Landry.
The teacher allegedly asked the student to change her behavior, after which the young girl allegedly attacked her. Some students reported that the attack was carried out with scissors, but this information was not confirmed by the police, said Sergeant Landry.
The surrounding students tried to intervene, and the teaching staff were finally able to control the student.
The teacher was taken to hospital for treatment of upper body injuries and possible nervous shock, according to the police spokeswoman. The teenager was also taken to the hospital to undergo a psychological evaluation.
In the evening, the young suspect was arrested by the police for armed assault, and she was released by summons. She is therefore no longer detained pending the possible filing of charges.
The file will soon be sent to prosecutors, said Sergeant Landry.
The school and the Laval School Service Center had not responded to an email from La Presse Canadienne at the time of writing.
