Across the world, more than 43 million children have been forced to move due to climate disasters.
When we talk about global warming, there is what we see, what we feel and what we do not imagine. Like Karima, an Indian schoolgirl, just over 43 million child movements took place between 2016 and 2021, according to a Unicef report. This is equivalent to 20,000 child movements per day, fuyant floods, storms, droughts and fires.
“Often their education is interrupted”
“This is just the tip of the iceberg based on the data we have. Children can be separated from their parents, their caregivers. Often their education is disrupted, their access care is disrupted, so they are at higher risk of malnutrition, disease”, says Laura Healy, co-author of the Unicef report. This phenomenon could more than double in the next 30 years. A cry of alarm from Unicef to leaders of the planet, while COP 28 will be held in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) in a few weeks.
