Liberal MP supports Poilievre

Liberal MP Ken McDonald was in favor of canceling the carbon tax proposed by Pierre Poilievre in the House of Commons on Wednesday.

Ken McDonald, Liberal MP for Avalon, Newfoundland, was the only non-Conservative MP to speak in favor of this latest attempt by Pierre Poilievre’s leader to thwart the carbon tax.

“This carbon tax is not worth the cost and I am not the only one to say it,” said the Leader of the Opposition before quoting the Liberal MP for Avalon who allegedly said: “we are punishing rural areas of our country and the most vulnerable people in our society [avec cette taxe]”, reported CTV News,

When McDonald stood up in the Commons, he was received with applause from Conservative MPs. It was not the first time that he was the only Liberal to position himself with the Official Opposition on tax issues.

“The other Liberal MPs like to tell the Atlantic provinces that they disagree with the Prime Minister’s plan to quadruple the carbon tax to 61¢ per liter,” said the leader of the Conservative Party. Unfortunately, they [changent de discours] when they arrive in the House of Commons.”

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau defended the tax to the Atlantic provinces which suffered extreme weather this summer. “They have seen the impacts of climate change and know that we must continue to fight against it,” he said, “and that is exactly what a tax on pollution does.”
