Less than a year before the Paris Olympics, bedbugs have been spotted in cinemas and trains. The town hall is asking for a national-scale plan.
Bedbugs proliferate in homes, cinemas, transport and even hospitals. The invasion turns into psychosis. A few days ago, they were filmed in several TGV trains. “A wind of panic has set in”, says a witness. In Paris, the professionals responsible for eliminating these pests are overwhelmed. “It’s unprecedented for us. We’ve never had a year with so many requests”assures Kévin Granada Rios, of the company Cosmos Solutions anti-nuisibles.
Paris requires a large-scale plan
The problem is taken very seriously by Paris town hall. For the most modest households, it reimburses home disinfection. Today it calls for a large-scale plan, on the scale of France. Emmanuel Grégoire, 1st deputy mayor of Paris, even speaks of a “global issue”. Less than a year before the Olympic Games, hoteliers and tourism professionals are also worried about the invasion. Over the last five years, bedbugs have infested one in ten homes in France.
