The transitional government in Burkina Faso claimed, Wednesday September 27, in a press release read on national television, to have thwarted Tuesday “an attempted coup d’état”almost a year after Captain Ibrahim Traoré came to power through a putsch.

“At present, officers and other alleged actors involved in this attempt at destabilization have been arrested and others are actively sought,” continues the government. According to him, the authors of this attempted putsch “nurtured the dark intention of attacking the institutions of the Republic and precipitating [le] country in chaos”.

Two coups in 2022

Tuesday evening, thousands of people took to the streets of the capital Ouagadougou to call for support from Ibrahim Traoré for the “defend” faced with the rumors of a putsch which agitated social networks. The government says it wants to “all the light on this plot” And “regrets that officers whose oath is to defend the homeland have gone astray in an enterprise of such a nature which aims to hinder the march of the Burkinabe people for their sovereignty and their total liberation from the terrorist hordes who are trying to enslave them” .

This alleged putsch attempt comes almost a year to the day after Captain Traoré took power, on September 30, 2022. It was then the second coup in eight months in Burkina Faso, undermined for nearly ten years of bloody jihadist violence over a large part of its territory.
