A sign that hiring is sometimes more timid in places in Quebec, nearly one job offer in five has disappeared from the job search site Indeed in the space of barely a year , has noted The newspaper.
“As of September 15, job offers in Quebec on Indeed were […] down 19% from the previous year,” confirmed job site Indeed when polled by The newspaper.
According to the company, the desire to hire remains higher than before the pandemic, but it has definitely declined since the middle of last year.
“It is in Montreal that the demand for workers is closest to pre-pandemic levels, which is probably due in part to the fact that the technology sector which is very present in the city has seen a particularly decline importance of job offers,” we explain.
Job offers were also still quite high in Saguenay and Trois-Rivières, notes Indeed.
“SMEs tell us that it is less difficult to hire than before. Difficulties remain. The retention rate, however, remains an issue,” observes Carmine Zanni, supply chain advisor to Industrial Subcontracting Quebec (STIQ).
Below the 200,000 mark
Last Wednesday, the Institut du Québec (IdeQ) highlighted that between the first and second quarter, the number of vacant positions had decreased by 7.7%, below the 200,000 vacant position mark for the first time in two years. .
“This is consistent with the slowdown in employment growth observed over the past year,” it was explained.
The IdeQ mentioned that the average hourly wage offered had jumped 6.6% to $24.30 in the space of one year.
“Over the last three months, monthly job creation has fallen by half compared to the start of the year. We are also observing a reduction in job offers and a drop in resignations,” analyzed Jimmy Jean, vice-president, chief economist of Desjardins in a recent note.
