A cliché that seems unreal. Marcel Drechsler, Yann Sainty and Xavier Strottner won first prize in the Galaxy category of the astronomy photography competition on Thursday September 14 from the Royal Observatory, Greenwich (United Kingdom). The German and the two Frenchmen managed to photograph a huge arc of plasma next to the Andromeda galaxy. Besides the price, their photo named Andromeda, Unexpected allowed them to win 10,000 pounds sterling (11,643 euros).
“This astrophoto is as spectacular as it is precious. Not only does it present Andromeda in a new light, but it also elevates the quality of astrophotography to a new level.”commented the jury.
“It is a huge honor for our team to receive this important award and we are grateful for all the support, friendship and encouragement we have received along our journey. It encourages us to continue our passion for ‘astrophotography and, of course, research, with dedication’reacted the winners.
