Led by the score, the Swedes overthrew the rainbow nation by taking the advantage in the last minutes, Sunday, in Wellington (2-1).

Not everything has been easy for Sweden. Long abused by a courageous South African formation, Peter Gerhardsson’s players managed to reverse the course of the match at the very end of regulation time, Sunday July 23, thanks to the victorious goal of the former Parisian Amanda Ilestedt (90th). Upon returning from the locker room, the African champions surprised the Olympic vice-champions by opening the scoring thanks to Hildah Magaia (48th).

Jostled, the Swedes managed to come back after the goal of Fridolina Rolfo (65th), before Amanda Ilestedt freed her team at the end of the game. On the third step of the podium at the last World Cup, Sweden provided the essentials, without being reassured. South Africa, still in search of its first victory in the World Cup, showed an attractive face, which offers good prospects for the rest of the competition.
