MEP Marie Toussaint named leader of environmentalists

Following an internal vote, the activists of Europe Ecologie-Les Verts also endorsed the change of name of the party, which becomes Les Ecologistes.

The environmental movement has a new face. MEP Marie Toussaint, 36, was appointed, Monday, July 10, leader of the ecologists for the European elections of 2024 after an internal vote of the militants, ratifying in fact the principle of an autonomous list .

Marie Toussaint was chosen by 59.5% of the vote, ahead of David Cormand who will be number two on the list, announced party leader Marine Tondelier. This jurist distinguished herself with “The Affair of the Century”, a legal remedy against France’s climate inaction.

During this consultation, the activists of Europe Ecologie-Les Verts also endorsed the change of name of the party, which becomes Les Ecologistes. A promise from the new national secretary Marine Tondelier, as part of an overhaul which should be completed in October.
