Faced with the current drought and the looming heat wave, young volunteer firefighters from all over France are training for forest fires in the Bouches-du-Rhône. They will serve as reinforcements throughout the summer.

In a forest in the Bouches-du-Rhône, firefighters are preparing to intervene. The fire is not easily accessible, so you will have to go get it on foot. If the steps are not yet very assured, the motivation is there for these young people, all volunteer firefighters, who have already faced the fire in the city. They came down south to train in wildfires. The maneuver is therefore only an exercise, with water lances, but without a flame to extinguish.

Five days of training

These young people will serve all summer as reinforcements in the Bouches-du-Rhône. For these seasonal workers, who come from all over France, there are not only technical gestures to discover. “I’m not from the region, so I don’t necessarily know the environment, which is quite dry“, explains Laurine, firefighter in training. With global warming, forest fires can happen anywhere in France. Those of Gironde, last year, were a trigger for Adrian. “Last summer I felt a bit useless“, he confides. After five days of training, these trainees will be ready to face the fires.
