Stations and motorways are preparing from July 7 for record attendance for major holiday departures. Car or train, what will be the preferred mode of transport? Elements of answers with Luc Bazizin, present on the set of 19/20, Thursday July 6.
Car or train, which will be the big winner used for holiday departures this year? “Between the rail and the road, the fastest is likely to be the train, especially when you think of the kilometers of automobile traffic jams for the big departures“, estimates Luc Bazizin, present on the set of 19/20, Thursday July 6. The choice may vary from region to region. “For Paris, for example, the TGV wins. (…) In other cities such as Strasbourg, Lille or Bordeaux, the two means of transport balance each other out, but there are four times fewer trains in New Aquitaine each day compared to the Ile-de-France network, 40 against 160“, explains the journalist.
The more ecological TGV
Traveling from west to east by train therefore remains complicated. “The region where the car remains essential is Auvergne and the city of Clermont-Ferrand, the most underserved of the French rail network and devoid of TGV“, says Luc Bazizin. The most virtuous for ecology remains the TGV and the electric car but for the latter the question of autonomy and recharging arises.
