Montreal: demonstration against a real estate project in Ville-Émard

A citizen group called “No to the wild urbanization of Ville-Émard” is preparing to demonstrate Monday afternoon in front of the town hall of the South-West to demand the end of the construction of a block of condos.

The demonstration will take place around 5 p.m., before the borough council meeting.

According to the citizen group, which says it is disappointed by the broken promises of Projet Montreal, the municipal administration authorized the real estate project on a green island, without consulting the residents.

It is to denounce this “fait accompli” that the residents decided to demonstrate to push the administration to reverse.

“Neighbors find it contradictory that on one side the City is” recruiting “us to develop small” green alleys “, and in the land next to it condones the destruction of a natural habitat with hundred-year-old trees sheltering birds and a diverse fauna which was the joy of passers-by, ”said the citizen collective in a statement.

More than 160 residents have signed a petition demanding the “revocation of the building permit and the organization of a public consultation”. The petition will be submitted to the borough council on Monday.
