After the explosion of a nearby dam which flooded Kherson, in Ukraine, the decline began and reveals disfigured streets. At the same time, the fighting and shelling did not stop.

In Kherson (Ukraine), Russian shells continue to fall. One of them injured 20 on Saturday June 17. Ten days after the explosion of the Kakhovka dam and the terrible floods that followed, the flood began. Ludmila, retired, returns home for the first time. His house is nothing more than a tangle of sheet metal and waterlogged furniture. “I have nowhere to go. I have worked for 66 years and I have nothing left“, she explains, in despair, believing that the destruction of the dam is “even worse” than the bombings.

The fear of epidemics

The neighborhood is disfigured. For its 800 residents, who have already withstood eight months of Russian occupation, the list of hardships seems endless. They now fear epidemics. Grigori, from his garden filled with stagnant water, worries. “We are really afraid that bacteria will develop. We are afraid of catching diseases. Do you smell the smell of gasoline? It’s getting stronger and stronger”he laments.
