At least 24 localities find themselves flooded and nearly 17,000 civilians are evacuated according to the Ukrainian authorities, after the attack on a hydroelectric dam in the region of Kherson, in the south of the country, on Tuesday 6 June.

On both sides of the Dnieper River, the water continues to rise, Tuesday, June 6. On a city controlled by the Russians, the swans even took possession of the streets, like Kherson (Ukraine), a city controlled by the Ukrainians. For them, there is no doubt that Moscow is behind the destruction of the three-kilometer-long hydroelectric dam that feeds a power station.

Both sides blame each other for the attack

According to the Ukrainians, the Russians destroyed it to flood the plain to the south towards Kherson and prevent a counter-offensive. Throughout the day, Ukrainian rescuers evacuated residents who still live here. Once more, it is necessary to flee, but not because of the bombs. For their part, the Russians accuse the Ukrainians of being behind the attack. Their goal ? Deprive the Crimea of water, because it is a channel from the dam that feeds the peninsula. Another concern is the Zaporijia power plant. Water from the dam is used to cool the reactors and according to kyiv, there is a risk of a major accident. But experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency are more reassuring.
