(Toronto) Former Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman has passed away.
He was 88 years old.
Premier Doug Ford confirmed the news in a Twitter post on Saturday night.
He described Mel Lastman as “a true leader and builder for Toronto. ”
Mel Lastman was mayor of North York for 25 years before the Toronto suburbs amalgamated.
He went on to become Toronto’s first amalgamated mayor – a role he held for six years, from 1997 to 2003.
