Italy | One dead and 15 injured in fire in Rome

(Rome) A person was killed and fifteen others were injured, including two seriously burned, in the fire Friday of a building in the east of Rome, announced the mayor of the district.


“Official figures, one dead, fifteen injured, including two serious”, wrote on his Facebook page Massimiliano Umberti, mayor of 4e district of Rome where the incident occurred, while stressing that doors still had to be opened in the seven-storey building in the grip of flames.

According to the media, work on the facade of the building was in progress when the fire occurred and whose origin was not immediately clear.

An investigation has been opened by the Rome public prosecutor’s office into the causes of the fire which forced more than 100 people to leave their homes.

According to Alessandro Paola, a Rome firefighters official quoted by the daily La Repubblicatwo or three explosions were heard before the flames spread to the scaffolding present around the building due to the works.
