[Critique] “Dying in Canada I”, La Faune

Die in Canada I, the second album by singer-songwriter Jérémie Essiambre (known as La Faune, discovered at Francouvertes in 2020), will be presented in two stages: five songs last week, the others this fall. We find the same attention to sound detail, the neat and dynamic realization that we liked from the previous one (and musically more sophisticated) Tomorrow was yesterday (2020), but the compositions reveal a more go-getter musician, with a fully assumed pop momentum, in the epic allure of his easy-to-sing choruses with him. The first measures of Give me some time in the opening are even reminiscent of Bryan Adams, even in the gently scratchy voice. Similar pop-rock atmosphere on Clandestine which follows, while the very beautiful Watch where you step recalls, in its acoustic guitars and choirs (sung by Kanen and Henri Kinkead), the harmonic ambition of a Bon Iver. It makes you want to hear the sequel, which he will probably premiere at Sainte-Thérèse on May 14, during the Santa Teresa festival.
