Jacques Zimako, former French international footballer in the 1970s and 1980s, died Wednesday, December 8, at the age of 69. It was the Sporting Club de Bastia, where he played for eight years, which announced his death on Twitter.

The former striker was the first Kanak to wear the France men’s football jersey. Zimako scored 2 goals in 13 games with the Blues from 1977 to 1981, the year after which he was crowned French champion with Saint-Etienne.

Zimako also scored 92 goals in 388 appearances in Division 1. He made the heyday of Bastia (1972-1977), Saint-Etienne (1977-1981) then Sochaux (1981-1983) before returning to Sporting at the end of career (1983-1985). The Corsican club saluted the memory of a “true legend”.
