Firefighters were scrambling Monday to contain wildfires in several parts of South Korea after a dry spell, including on a mountain popular with hikers in central Seoul.
The fire started on Sunday morning on Mount Inwang, a green haven popular with residents of the South Korean capital, then quickly spread due to strong winds, the municipality said in a statement.
Around 120 homes were evacuated and no immediate deaths or injuries were reported.
The main blaze was contained on Sunday evening, but fire helicopters were still flying over the area to put out the fire on Monday morning, the statement said.
Authorities will open an investigation to determine the cause of the fire once it is completely extinguished, Yonhap news agency said.
On Monday, firefighters were also trying to contain wildfires in South Chungcheong Province, south of Seoul, battling strong winds carrying clouds of smoke.
The fire damaged more than 60 homes and at least 236 people had to be evacuated from Hongseong district in South Chungcheong, according to the Korea Forest Service.
