Recognized as a builder of the Quebec cultural industry, Pierre Lampron died Wednesday at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife, with whom he was in a relationship for 57 years, Lise Julien, as well as his two sons and six grandchildren.
Pierre Lampron has held many important positions during his long career. He was a senior civil servant at the Ministry of Culture and Communications from 1981 to 1989, then Bureau Director of Telefilm Canada in the Paris and London offices until 1995.
The organization offered its condolences to those close to Mr. Lampron on Twitter, adding that he has “dedicated his career to the development and promotion of Quebec culture”.
Pierre Lampron was subsequently the first President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Society for the Development of Cultural Enterprises (SODEC). “He was my CEO in the 1990s, when I was in charge of projects at SODEC’s directorate general for cinema and television”, says the current CEO of the organization, Louise Lantagne, in a written statement sent to the Duty. “I salute his passion, his determination and his great culture which helped him, among other things, to put SODEC on track and to direct it with a masterful hand. »
Mr. Lampron then made a leap into the media in 1999. He held the position of CEO at TV5 Americas, then President of TVA Films and Vice-President of Institutional Relations at Quebecor.
He also played in politics from 2009 to 2012, when he was elected councilor for the district of Vieux-Rosemont after campaigning with mayoral candidate Louise Harel. He served as Vice-Chairman of the Commission des finances publiques of the City of Montreal.
Throughout his career, Pierre Lampron has obtained numerous distinctions: Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic (1991), Knight of the National Order of Merit of the French Republic (1998) and Knight of the Order of the Pléiade from the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie (2001). He is also the recipient of the Samuel de Champlain Prize for his role in relations between France and Quebec.
The family will receive condolences on April 15 at the Mont Royal Funeral Complex.
