In order to maintain their level of pollution below the targets set by the Quebec government, several major polluters use forest offset credits. Before December 2022, companies had to buy this type of certified credit in the United States, since Quebec did not have its own protocol to approve it. However, studies reveal that certain benefits of these American credits would be exaggerated. We return to the functioning of the carbon market and examine the flaws in the assessment of carbon capture, both American and Quebec.
