Islanders win 5-3 over Rocket

(Laval) Cory Schneider saved 42 pucks as the Bridgeport Islanders defeated the Laval Rocket 5-3 on Wednesday night.

Schneider, a ten-year veteran of the NHL, frustrated the Rocket (25-27-10) for most of the night, including in the third period, when the Montreal Canadiens’ school club unchecked 18 throws.

Paul Thompson and Arnaud Durandeau dealt a blow to the home team by hitting the target within nine seconds, ending the debate for good.

Durandeau ended the game with two goals for the Islanders (29-25-8), who found their way back to victory. Thompson, Kyle MacLean and Andy Andreoff each had a goal and an assist.

The Islanders did a good job on special teams, allowing only one goal on seven shorthanded while moving the ropes twice with an extra player.

Freshly arrived in Laval, Emil Heineman scored his first career goal in the American Hockey League. Mitchell Stephens and Brandon Gignac completed the scoring for the Rocket.

Cayden Primeau gave up five times on 37 shots in front of the net for Jean-François Houle’s squad.
