Quebecers Marion Thénault and Émile Nadeau won bronze in the Freestyle Skiing World Cup Finals on Sunday.
Thénault gave everything she had in qualifying, provisionally finishing second at the start of the day.
Despite a more difficult jump in the first final which earned her 81.07 points and the sixth result of this round, she recovered in the super-final, with 93.76 points — a good mark for third place and her fifth medal of the season.
“I’m really happy with my jumps (Sunday), said the Sherbrooke resident. I’ve had a tougher time this season, so it makes me really proud to finish on a high note. »
Australian Laura Peel triumphed (110.36 points), ahead of her compatriot Danielle Scott (97.99).
The track being located at high altitude, the clouds forced the cancellation of certain training sessions, in view of this last event of the calendar. The participants also had to adapt to the particularly fast Kazakh track.
Thénault finished third in the discipline’s cumulative ranking in the World Cup.
She collected 350 points, 12 less than second-placed Peel. The crystal globe went to Danielle Scott of Australia, with 462 points.
Thénault collected a seventh podium at the World Cup.
For Nadeau de Prévost, in the Laurentians, it was a very first medal in this context. “I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time! said the 19-year-old skier.
The judges awarded him a score of 96.83 in the super-final.
The Swiss Pirmin Werner and Noe Roth were the only ones to beat him. Werner won with 123.00 points, followed by Roth with 118.55 points.
“It’s fun to end on a positive note. After a tough week of training, I didn’t think it was possible, said Nadeau, who failed to reach a super-final this season.
“It shows me that I’m capable of making a podium and it’s really good for confidence. »
Miha Fontaine of Lac-Beauport finished ninth, while Alexandre Duchaine of Quebec was 14th in qualifying.
