L’amour à 10 sous – The sentimental novel in post-war Quebec

What did Quebec housewives dream of during the 1940s and 1950s? Professors Marie-Pier Luneau and Jean-Philippe Warren, co-authors of Love as a novel – The sentimental novel in Quebec from yesterday to today, tell us in their new book about post-war society through their “dimes novels”, these thirty-page booklets that sold like hot cakes. With its small practical format and its color illustrations, it is an entertaining read that teaches us as much about the fantasies of the time as about this aura of glamor that Montreal and its nightlife had.

L’amour à 10 sous – The sentimental novel in post-war Quebec, Marie-Pier Luneau and Jean-Philippe Warren. North, 258 pages.

Nengo – A fight for dignity

World-renowned photojournalist Nick Danziger traveled to the Central African Republic to collect the testimony of survivors of sexual violence, which he shares with us in this beautiful book published specially on the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day. In addition to these poignant portraits, these are stories of resilience that we discover with emotion, as well as all the work behind the Nengo project, which comes to the aid of victims. The preface is signed by surgeon, Nobel Peace Prize winner and Congolese activist Denis Mukwege, who is also the author of The strength of women (published by Gallimard in 2021).
