The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) cuts certain wholesale Internet rates by 10% and launches a review to reduce the bill imposed on consumers.
The telecommunications regulator has thus recognized that its current approach does not sufficiently encourage competition in the sector.
The review focuses on the rates paid by small industry competitors to large telecommunications companies to access their networks. The organization will also examine whether the latter should provide their competitors with access to their fibre-to-the-home networks to improve the services they offer their customers.
Last month, Federal Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne ordered the agency to implement new rules to strengthen consumer rights, affordability, competition and universal internet access. .
Canadians can participate in the review until June 22 by submitting their comments on the CRTC’s website, among other places.
